I recently turned another year older. \u00a0As I\u00a0barrel\u00a0headlong into being a grouchy, old\u00a0curmudgeon, I want to point out something that bugs me to no end:<\/p>\n

YOU PEOPLE ARE WAY TOO GULLIBLE!<\/p>\n

And when I say YOU PEOPLE, I mean you people that will believe anything that is sent to your inbox or is posted on Facebook or Twitter.<\/p>\n

For example,you get sent an email that informs you about some restaurant chain that is not serving\u00a0veterans and your first response is “Well how dare they! \u00a0I will\u00a0boycott\u00a0these\u00a0dastardly, un-American pigs!”<\/p>\n

You then feel the need to share your\u00a0righteous\u00a0anger with the rest of the world via e-mail or a social network of your choosing.<\/p>\n

Stop it. Seriously. \u00a0Take a breath and pump the brakes a little bit, Sparky.<\/p>\n

Just because your momma, or some other trusted soul, sent you this e-mail does not make it so.<\/p>\n

Snopes has a pretty good track record at exposing Internet hoaxes, scams and\u00a0photo-shopped\u00a0pictures of Elvis working as an oil changer at Jiffy Lube.<\/p>\n

What about Wikipedia you say? \u00a0Be careful. \u00a0Almost anyone can post\u00a0anything\u00a0on Wikipedia. \u00a0You might even think Abraham Lincoln went around dispatching the un-dead in his spare time if you catch Wikipedia at the right moment after some \u00a0joker updates Mr. Lincoln’s entry.<\/p>\n

And this stuff is nothing new. I remember in the 70’s and 80’s there was a scam that used to be photocopied and passed around about how the Procter & Gamble\u00a0Company was a super-duper, undercover Satanist\u00a0organization, and\u00a0every time\u00a0you bought a tube of Crest toothpaste you were funding the devil.<\/p>\n

We just got faster at spreading the lies.<\/p>\n
